RAVEN is a magnificent replica wooden ship in the final stages of construction at Bushfield, near Warrnambool in South Western Victoria, Australia. RAVEN is a full-size, sailing recreation of a fifteenth century Portuguese caravel. Inspired by the legendary Mahogany Ship, RAVEN is Australia's oldest ship recreation, and a truly unique endeavour. This amazing project has been researched, designed and constructed by one amateur boatbuilder, Graeme Wylie. RAVEN has been constructed entirely from reclaimed timber, without causing a single tree to be felled. When completed,RAVEN will measure twenty-one metres, and displace seventy tonnes. The launching of RAVEN is anticipated in mid/2010. RAVEN IS NOW OPEN FOR PUBLIC VIEWING. VISIT RAVEN AT YOUR LEISURE, IN A QUIET GARDEN OF EUCALYPTUS AND PINE TREES. In October 2009, Graeme completed the Herculian task of construction, with the final plank being coaxed into place on her port side.
We celebrated with a cosy fire and champagne!!
There is now a little,(comparatively speaking),carpentry underway completing the rear-deck below decks, and enclosing the mighty marine Detroit Diesel within a scented cypress sculptured box!
